Current availability
The Family clients and Cloudflare service are implemented, but public account linking, purchase verification and push delivery await configuration and physical-device testing. The product is not yet a working public monitoring service. The following explains the designed controls that must be verified before activation.
Eligibility at launch
The current Family implementation accepts US members aged 16–17 or 18 and over. Household creators and supporters must be 18 or over. Age bands are self-reported; this is not identity or guardianship verification. A younger learner or a family outside the US should not be told the current service supports them.
Three sharing levels
- Check-ins: trip-start and completion status with timing, without route coordinates.
- Coaching: completed confirmed-driver summaries, supported scores, event counts and weekly briefs; selected event clips may include location and a driver’s explanation.
- Routes: coaching information plus completed routes filtered through privacy zones. This is not a continuous live-location feed.
A broader sharing level needs acceptance from both driver and supporter. Reducing an accepted level can take effect immediately; pause, revoke, leave-household and account-deletion controls also exist. Agreements are versioned so stale requests cannot silently bypass the current choice. Historical drives from before acceptance are not automatically shared.
Attribution, context and independence
Confirm whether you drove or were a passenger. Passenger and unconfirmed trips do not become confirmed-driver coaching summaries. You can add context to a chosen moment and select practice goals such as reviewing together, supervised practice, or smoother braking. A weekly brief supports discussion; it does not make licensing decisions or automatically grant privileges.
Data minimization and recipients
The Family service uses an explicit projection of accepted sharing data and excludes raw sensor streams, personal tags, addresses and route fingerprints. Shared event clips and optional routes still contain sensitive location information. The service uses HTTPS and Cloudflare storage; it is not end-to-end encrypted. Read the privacy policy for providers and retention.
Visible, lawful use
Family is intended for parents or legal guardians supporting eligible new drivers and for drivers choosing a supporter. It must not be used for hidden surveillance, stalking or coercion. A person’s relationship or role does not remove consent and legal obligations. Minors need parent or guardian permission; the service is not directed at children under 13 or a higher locally required minimum age.
When circumstances change
Review your agreement together as experience and circumstances change. To remove sharing access or request account deletion, use the app controls when available or request help here. Cancelling a store subscription is separate from deleting the account. Check-ins are not emergency monitoring, and missing updates do not establish that a crash occurred.
